Container Rear Loading Platforms – All you Need to Know

Safety, whilst loading and unloading vehicles, is something that is taken very seriously at the HSE. When you start to look at the risks, you can understand why.

Falls from vehicles are the second most common related-accident in the workplace accounting for 1600 injuries and 4 deaths in the past year. Access to load areas has its issues and drivers have become adept at climbing up onto lorry beds in a hazardous manner to load or unload their vehicles.

The solution we have at SafeSmart Access is the Container Rear Unloading Platform. This platform is designed to be wheeled up to the rear of a container truck to allow easy-assess for users to unload goods in a safe manner. It is a compact platform that provides a 70° access to one side which allows the platform to fit easily into loading bays.

The contained platform, which ensures that goods do not fall off the side, can be made to any size, but typically they are 2400mm (L) x 1700 (W) x 1400mm (H). The maximum height of 200m on height adjustable casters means that our platforms align with most lorry beds, ensuring that the amount of bending is reduced when lifting on and off vehicles. Less back strain means less injury-related downtime. The height-adjustable aspect also means that this can be safety used on uneven or sloping ground.

The horizontal rungs on the ladder leading up to the platform provides plenty of toe and foothold space whilst the top of the platform includes a swing gate which allows the pallet to be safely forklifted on and off for loading. The platform also allows for heavy loads with its capacity at 1500kg SWL.

Rear loading platforms are now common-place amongst transport companies—in addition to other smart solutions like Truck Access Super Maintenance platforms, Portable Truck Access Stairs and Truck Loading Access Platforms—and they are becoming more and more popular with big warehouses, since these platforms provide the safe barrier needed to stop the employee from falling off the back.

SafeSmart are the UK leaders when it comes to compliant, robust safety products that adhere and often exceed HSE WAHR and BS EN regulations. Call us today to discuss your needs and requirements with a member of our team.
