The Challenge
At H+MV Engineering’s project site in Doncaster, the team required a safe and reliable means of accessing an embankment while working across varying ground levels. The changing terrain created a challenge for maintaining safe pedestrian access, with traditional methods offering limited flexibility and increasing the potential for slips, trips and falls.
H+MV Engineering needed a practical solution that could be installed quickly, provide compliant access up and down the embankment, and adapt to the site’s changing levels without the need for bespoke fabrication.
The Solution
Working closely with H+MV Engineering, the SafeSmart team recommended using a mixture of 1200mm wide AdjustaStairs and mid-landings, to create the safest and most effective access route.
The solution combined double-width AdjustaStairs with mid-landing platforms, allowing the staircase to follow the natural slope of the embankment while maintaining safe and comfortable access for site personnel. The adjustable design enabled the stair sections to be set to the required height, making it easy to accommodate the varying ground levels encountered on site.
Because the system is fully modular and supplied from the standard AdjustaStairs range, installation was completed quickly and efficiently, with minimal disruption to ongoing site activities.
The Outcome
The completed installation provided H+MV Engineering with a safe, stable and compliant access route that improved movement around the site and reduced the risks associated with navigating the embankment.
